Majcherczyk & Casal Duo is a violin–viola ensemble exploring the rich dialogue between the two instruments through both classical repertoire and contemporary works. The duo brings together violinist Anna Majcherczyk and violist Dr. Luis Casal, who began performing together in 2021 with a debut performance at Paul Hall.
Since then, they have appeared in concerts at St. John’s in the Village, at the International Festival de Saint Malo in Panama, and on invitation of the Embassy of Poland in Panama during an official embassy ceremony.
Their programs combine cornerstone works of the violin–viola repertoire—including duos by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the “Three Madrigals” by Bohuslav Martinů—with explorations of lesser-known composers such as Gordon Jacob and York Bowen. The duo is also committed to expanding the repertoire through contemporary works and premieres, including a duo written for the ensemble by violist Luis Casal and music by American composer Howard Lew.
Recently, Majcherczyk & Casal Duo was featured on the recording Hypnagogia, released by the American Viola Society.
Coming from different musical and cultural backgrounds, Majcherczyk and Casal share a love for the sound of strings and enjoy discovering new repertoire for this unique combination.
The duo is based in New York City.
